"Making Your Home Sing Monday"

"Making Your Home Sing Monday" is a new meme by "Moms the Word". She describes it this way. "Every day you are doing something to make your house into a home for yourself and your family (if you have one). My point with each Monday post is, what are you doing or going to do today? It can be an attitude or an action. Motivation, our attitude, baking, encouraging our husband or children (if we have either one), organization, cleaning, saving money...the opportunities are endless. Whatever you're doing you are blessing your family.  I just want people to post what they're dong that day or going to do that day to "make their home sing". Anything we do to bless our families, to make our homes run more smoothly, anything we do to go about our homemaking more joyfully and thankfully will apply."

Mondays are busy for me as far as trying to catch up with what I was not able to do over the weekend. We keep Sundays as a day of rest to honor the Lord so things pile up a bit. We have only just started to do that and it has been a blessing. So when Monday morning hits, I have a to-do list. To add to it, I we have school at home and a couple of activities after school to work out.

Here's what I want to do today to make our home "sing".

Take care of Braaten who has the fever/cold crud again. Poor thing! She is tired of being sick. This is her second time getting it in a few weeks. Everyone else in the house has had it, except for Shawn and I, and Austin had it twice, too! Bless her heart, she is still doing her schoolwork today in spite of it.

Here's our laundry room. I have been wanting to write about how long it actually takes to do one load of laurdry here...like 3 hours per load minimum! Did you hear that, ladies? For example, if I wash a load of whites, the cycle runs at 2 hours and 23 minutes. I can shave off 15 minutes if I hit the "less time" button. Then to dry that same load is 3 hours if it is towels. that is a total of about 5 hours and 18 minutes! This particular dryer is a condensation dryer which is better for the enviroment I think. It came with the home we are renting and I don't think they have a better system anyway. In fact, there are combination washer/dryer machines. What a nightmare that would be! I am forced to do laundry everyday to keep up with it.

This corner in our office needs help!! So today I really want to tackle it once and for all.

When the kids were helping clean one day, they so kindly took this pile off the dresser and put it in the already messy corner.

What are you going to do today to "make your home sing"?

Oh Carol...I feel your laundry pain (or Mt. Neverrest as I call it here). I do have a quick wash cycle that takes a measly 55 minutes. Kind of gives a whole new meaning to the word quick! Plus, one pair of jeans and a couple of socks and my machine is full. I've been known to shed a tear or two over the laundry here.

I have a women's bible study in my home every Monday morning from 10-noon. It puts me in such an excellent state of mind to face the week (or at least Monday!), which in turn I think blesses my family. We've considered changing the day we meet as Mondays are always a little challenging, but in the end we all agreed that its just a wonderful way to begin the week. We are currently doing a Jennifer Rothschild study called Fingerprints of God.

Have a great Monday-I hope your house sings!

Poor Braaten! She sure seems to have a good attitude in spite of being sick-again! I, too, have my litttle piles of stuff that needs attending. Hopefully I will get to some of them this week. Great post and great pictures!

Mondays will be busy for you, but this gives the rest of us motivation too. Good luck with all that laundry. Mine is going right now too:)

Great meme!

The laundry - oh dreadful. The whole European laundry thing seems SO inefficient - as if they do laundry as an afterthought.

Maybe that's why a lot of Europeans have kind of a funky smell?? They wear their clothes for a month before washing because it takes a week to wash a load of clothes?

Carol,
Thank you for posting on my blog. Homeschooling is the most challenging and fulfilling thing I've ever done in my life. I know very well and can really relate to the love/hate relationship you have with it. I should blog more about homeschooling and you've given me lots to think about. God bless.

Carol, on my goodness! I will never complain about laundry again (and today's my laundry day, haha!). The only time my laundry took that long was when the dryer wasn't working properly.

I do hope your sweet daughter feels better soon. Good luck cleaning the corner (boy, do I have some of those!) and thanks for joining us today!

Ugh! I'd hate it each load took that long. It is one of those washer/dryer combo's I hear are popular in Europe? My front loader has some loads that take 1 hour 30 minutes and I try not to use those settings (probably should, but come on!). Thanks for sharing! Hope the daughter feels better and the corner gets tidied!

Carol,

When I said that you had a love/hate relationship with homeschooling, I didn't really mean hate. I just meant that some days are more challenging than others. I know that some days I just loved being a homeschooling mom and some days I wanted to throw a bit of a tantrum. But you're right, it is a calling and we have to step up to the plate and swing.

I love this "Making Your Home Sing Monday" thing!

Let's see...today I am:

- cleaning up our basement so that my hubby can get down there and work on some pipes without lots of clutter.

- making breakfast for dinner because its fun to do that sometimes.

- playing tractors with my 2 year old - because he loves it :)

Thank you for the inspiration! Have a wonderful week!

Blessings,
Kate :)

Poor Braeten, being sick twice in a short period of time is the pits. Getting the laundry done is hard for us all its still the chore I put off the most.

My laundry room always looks like that!!! I never "finish" my laundry. Maybe that should be a "Your gonna miss this" moment!
