Weekend Getaway (Part 3)

The last part of our trip was to the Grand Hotel. We arrived on Sunday afternoon to this very stately hotel.

I mentioned that there are no cars on the island. You either take this fancy horse and carriage, which we did not, you walk, or you ride bikes to get around. We walked because our time was mostly spent at the hotel itself.

The Grand Hotel was made famous in the movie,
"Somewhere in Time" starring Christopher Reeves.

Our room was lovely and comfortable. A fancy chocolate was placed on our pillows at night. The hotel has lots of this particular green and varying pinks in its decor. It's absolutely beautiful.

The attraction that brought us to the Grand Hotel on this particular weekend was a marriage retreat by Jay and Laura Laffoon.

The hotel requires evening wear after 6. It was fun to dress up.

The food was absolutely delicious!! Because we were there for the retreat, 3 of our meals were included. It was well worth it!

The sunset from the lovely, never ending porch with stately columns and a beautiful display of American flags along the length of it was a sight to behold.

On our way back to Mackinaw City, there were a couple of lighthouses.

Seeing Old Glory reminds me during this Veteran's weekend that I am proud to be an American and ever thankful for those who have served and are currently serving for my freedom.

Thank you for traveling up north in Michigan with me over the past few days. If you ever get a chance to stay at the Grand Hotel, visit the shops of Machinaw City, or go to Traverse City, do it! You will not regret it.

Have a blessed Sunday.

We love Jay and Laura, John and I have gone to this event three times now. We didn't make it this year. How did you like it? They are such a hoot! We've gone and stayed were we got married once and then have stayed at the Grand twice. I just told John the other day that we are going back to the island again next year. I'm a little bit chicken but if I weren't I would LOVE to take our Snowmobiles across in the winter on the ice bridge. That would be SO fun.

Hi!

These pictures are so beautiful. What fun for you and your husband. I have family in Petoskey, Michigan, and have made it up there a few times, but not in recent years. I love that area. I have taken a ferry across Lake Michigan. I have always thought it would be nice to go to Mackinac Island but have never made it there…perhaps someday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

☺Hope

You and Shawn look so beautiful all dressed up. What a great weekend you had. As much as I love our time altogether as a family, I also enjoy those quiet moments that we slip away as a couple and focus just on us. We always come back stronger than ever.

Hugs,

Kat
