I'm the kind of person that likes to do things with excellence, aka I'm perfectionistic. That's a derogatory word and one that needs to be dealt with. I am trying to move away from that because you end up not even starting things for fear that it will not be done completely. Case in point: these are the first set of photos you are seeing because I have hundreds and I didn't know where to begin.
So let's start at the beginning.
These couple of gems were taken at the airport. It just so happens that right before the security stop there is a coffee shop. And when it is 6 a.m. and you need coffee and the kids need some water with their breakfast, you inadvertently buy 3 of them. You come to find out that they were not that thirsty and so you have an entire bottle of water that you now have to pitch in order to get through said security.
Any frugal person would grab their receipt and return the water. I couldn't fathom just throwing it away when it cost an arm and a leg at the airport to begin with. My hubby enjoys this apparently and shoots a couple of photos of me somewhat dreading trying to return water. I'm standing there thinking, "Please don't stand alongside me as I ask for my piddly pence back. Oh shucks, there comes someone now." It is then my turn, and the woman happily obliged. She totally understood why I would want my money back. All that stress for nothing. Whew!
And since I have not had a lot of time this week to blog, I only included the first couple of photos from Rome. I'll have to do a series of posts to get them all in with the stories that go along with them. Bear with me, I'll get them on here.
When in Rome... takes lots of pictures.

Your pics of Rome are lovely...did you eat lots of wonderful food? My husband says everyone in Rome must have been walking around with a chisel back in the day. I say all that fabulous carving is due to no tv or internet : )
I look forward to seeing more. And remember in US speak that's almost $3 you got back! Have a nice weekend...Joyce

PS - yes Nan would be proud.
PSS - super jealous that you took a Mediteranean Cruise!
Hey, Girl! Good for you... I wouldn't have taken the water back just grumped about what a rip off it was. You make homemakers the world over proud to call you one of us.
My sister was sorry about the appliance issue in Europe, too. She had to take all her stuff with her... their house is being rented here while they are there so they couldn't leave it and military wouldn't pay to store it here...and they couldn't afford it on his Navy salary... but none of them work so they are all sitting, unused. You don't want to just toss things like your kitchen aid that costs so much to replace when they will be coming back home in three years. So she is trying to make do with toast in the oven and stuff like that. It is just two of them, though, so she doesn't necessarily cook way too much. I was curious about the freezer... do they not have larger ones or did you just not get one. I know my sister says they eat more fresh food so they don't need the freezer in Italy. They buy a day or two at a time from the open markets in Catania (no clue if I spelled that right).
I usually prepare batches of dough on Friday. I do about 10 loaves at a time. I store the dough and then bake a couple of loaves when we need it. I used to bake 4-8 loaves all at once...but there would often be a lot of waste. Because it is all preservative free, it can turn very quickly...especially in the summer months. I found a book that is all artisan bread recipes you can make in large batches and store until you want to bake. That is my latest favorite baking phenomenom. I like to do sourdough... so delicious, when I am thinking ahead. It isn't hard but you have to work on it for about two days and I often am not home for a long enough uninterrupted stretch. I was planning on sharing those recipes some time but if you are interested before I get around to posting let me know.
Off to get ready for my date. Have a great evening...I think it may be late there now...so maybe a great Sunday!
Kat
Looks like your off and having fun!! Love all the pictures - can't wait to see more!
Good for you for working in there. I didn't get as much done today on it as I'd hoped, as I had to switch some priorities around. Oh well.
